A Short Coat Outfit and Breeches

A Single Breasted Ride-Astride
Long Coat and Breeches

Past Exhibits

This exhibition focuses on the fashion changes that have made women equal to men in all equestrian activities and sports. These are the only athletic pursuits where women and men now compete together and equally. One hundred years ago this would have been unthinkable.

Featuring historic women’s riding attire from the 19th century to the present day, we are also pleased to showcase Santa Ynez Valley equestrian women of high achievement in all Western and English disciplines including:

  • Cowgirl Hall of Fame Inductees Sandy Collier, Audrey O’Brien Griffin, the late Sheila Varian (accompanied by The Nudie Costumes worn by Dale Evans and Roy Rogers and artifacts from Shania Twain)
  • Bronze Dressage Medalist Charlotte Bredahl-Baker
  • Hunter-Jumper Competitor & Sport Horse Breeder Buffy Oas
  • Three-Day Event Champion Jennifer Wooten
