A Baby Boomer Christmas Toys from the late 1940's through the mid 60's The Baby Boomer Years from around 1947 through the mid 1960s had a unique effect on Christmas traditions of the time. The 1950s ushered in a modern, almost futuristic era reflected in architecture, home decor, fashion, and lifestyle. New technology brought the onset of television, innovative ideas in household appliances, new car trends, and the rise of the Space Age. Reflected in the Christmas spirit was the garish, sparkling, tinsel-laden look of the “modern” age. Families gathering around fireplaces decorated with toy-filled felt stockings… Christmas trees drenched in shinny tinsel with large colorful lights including the intriguing “bubble” lights, or sparkling aluminum trees lit up by turning color wheels... glittering tinsel garlands... these are some of the things that Christmas memories of the Baby Boomer years are made of! Enjoy a trip back in time with the many toys and playthings of the Baby Boomer era…remember Mr. Potato Head, Chatty Cathy, Erector Sets, Cap Guns and Barbie? Fun for all (even if you aren't a Baby Boomer) this is an exhibit sure to delight young and old alike. |
